Bent's
Old Fort NHS
La Junta, CO |
|
Bent's
Old Fort lies 8 miles east of La Junta and 15 miles west of Las
Animas on route 124. The stamp is in the visitor center,
next to the parking lot. |
Black
Canyon of The Gunnison NM
Montrose, CO |
|
Shortly
after I visited, Black Canyon was bumped up from National Monument
to National Park status. This stamp was located in the
visitor center at Gunnison Point, on the south rim of the canyon. |
Colorado
NM
Fruita, CO |
|
There
are two entrances to Colorado National Monument. The West (Fruita)
Entrance is closer to the visitor center. From I-70, take
exit 19 and drive south on route 340 for two miles. The
visitor center and the stamp are a few winding miles from the
entrance. |
Curecanti
NRA
Gunnison, CO |
|
I
found this stamp at the Lake Fork Information Center, located just
east of the Blue Mesa Dam. Drive west on US-50 from the town of
Sapinero to get there. There is probably also a stamp at the
Elk Creek Visitor Center, on the eastern end of Blue Mesa Lake. |
Dinosaur
NM
Dinosaur, CO |
|
Dinosaur
has two visitor centers - one in Utah, and this one, just about
two miles east of the town, right along US-40. |
Florissant
Fossil Beds NM
Florissant, CO |
|
Take
US-24 west from Colorado Springs. The site is two miles
south of the town of Florissant, on Teller County Road
1. The stamp is in the visitor center, to the left as you
enter the building. |
Great
Sand Dunes NM
Mosca, CO |
|
The
tallest sand dunes in North America are located in the San Luis
Valley, 38 miles northeast of Alamosa. From US-160, take
route 150 19 miles north to the park entrance. The visitor center
is another 1.5 miles and the stamp is inside. Shortly after I
visted this site was bumped up to National Park
status. |
Mesa
Verde NP
Mesa Verde, CO |
|
The
entrance to Mesa Verde is along US-160, about 8 miles east of
Cortez. But the Far View Visitor Center is a long, winding drive
into the park. |
Rocky
Mountain NP
Estes Park, CO |
|
There
are four visitor centers in Rocky Mountain National Park.
But I think they may all have the same stamp. I got this one
at the Alpine Visitor Center 11,796 feet above sea level. |
Yucca
House NM
Cortez, CO |
|
This
may be the toughest stamp to obtain. Read my trip report
from Day 36 to see how to
get this stamp and, more importantly, how to earn it. |
